Acer is to unveil the company's first smartphone at next month's Mobile World Congress.
The device will be launched in Barcelona on the 16 February, with Acer giving very little away about the product before launch.
However, the company last year acquired Taiwanese mobile manufacturer, E-Ten, which has released a string of Windows Mobile handsets over the past couple of years.
Microsoft is expected to announce version 6.5 of Windows Mobile at Mobile World Congress, meaning Acer's device could be among the first to sport the new operating system.
The company isn't among the barrage of manufacturers involved with Google's Open Handset Alliance and E-Ten hasn't previously worked with Symbian, making Windows Mobile by far and away the front-runner for the Acer device.
Acer will be looking to build on the success of its Aspire netbook range, which has helped push the company past HP to become Europe's biggest PC maker.
