Mac trojan lurks in hacked Photoshop

A security firm is reporting that pirated copies of Adobe Photoshop CS4 are being distributed with a trojan.

Security company Intego says the OSX.Trojan.iServices.B trojan, which can provide an attacker with remote access to a Mac, is installed in a hidden OS X folder by the hacked installer which creates the unauthorised serial number necessary to run the downloaded software.

The company has released an update to its Intego Virus Barrier X4 and X5 applications that will remove the trojan, which is a new version of the Mac infection earlier found in pirated versions of iWork '09.

SecureMac, which released a tool to remove the iWork infection, has yet to provide a similar tool to delete the Photoshop infection, possibly because the installer uses random names, making it harder to ensure safe removal.

For more information on this infection, see Intego Security Alert.
