Tesco apologises for Mini 10 mix up

Tesco has apologised for the blunder which saw it advertise Dell's forthcoming Mini 10 netbook on its site, when in fact it was still offering the Mini 9.

The advert for the forthcoming netbook appeared on Tesco's website last week priced at £349, prompting a frenzy of excitement online.

However, Dell's forums quickly filled up with reports from disgruntled customers who had ordered the netbook only to discover they had actually been sent the Mini 9.

"Just took delivery of the Mini 10...except it isn't a Mini 10," notes one poster. "Tesco has sent a Mini 9 instead - all the usual specs for a Win XP Mini 9, 8.9in display, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, etc. So this is going back tomorrow for a refund."

Others weren't quite so stoic: "Pretty sneaky of Tesco to advertise the 10 and then ship the 9 thinking you will keep it. This sounded fishy to me right from the start with Tesco advertising the 10s for sale when Dell hasn't even announced them on their site."

Tesco has now yanked the product page from its website and apologised to customers affected. The retail giant says it will refund all customers who return their Mini 9.

Dell has yet to confirm a release date for the Mini 10, which bulks up the standard netbook package with a 10in screen, mobile broadband connection and TV tuner.
