Online legal wizards to cut cost of wills by 30%

A new website is looking to make online legal services as ubiquitous as insurance websites.

Mylawyer.co.uk, developed by Epoq, offers a wide range of business and consumer legal services, from drafting wills and pre-nuptial agreements to more complex documents such as tenancy contracts.

The wizard-based system is based on the Rapidocs technology, which allows you to draft a version of your legal document by answering a series of preliminary questions online.

Once you are satisfied with the first draft, the system roots out a suitable law firm, based on legal speciality and geographical proximity, with a fixed price listed for the service. Those that are happy to continue simply click send and the document is emailed to the firm for editing and a final check by a certified solicitor.

The solicitor will then make any corrections and amendments to the document it may need, and email it back within five working days.

Mylawyer.co.uk claims it could save consumers around 30% on the entire process, as it removes the consultation fees involved in drafting documents. It's also making a big play of the convenience involved.

"If you think about insurance, ten years ago it was all broker led, and that was just the way it was... now it's all online, you wouldn't even think about finding a broker," says Epoq CEO Graham Cohen. "In the same way, in five years time you won't even think about doing these sorts of legal services anywhere but online."
