In an "and finally" moment during his press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show today, Dr Woo Paik, president and CTO of LG USA, announced his company's work on a new watch phone.

Though sketchy on details, Dr Paik was wearing the watch and demonstrated making a call and playing back music.

Reminiscent in bulk and shape to the ill-fated Fossil PDA watch, there's no doubt that it won't be for everyone - it's simply too large. However, it looked more stylish than Fossil's offering, so may well tempt even the fashion-conscious.

Describing the phone as "something you'd expect to see in in a Bond film", Dr Paik assured the conference that it would be a reality later this year - though it wasn't clear whether it would initially just be for sale in the US.

LG also announced a phone with a built-in Bluetooth headset, the LG Decoy, and dual-microphone system it would be introducing into its phones.

Similar to the noise-cancelling system found in headphones, LG claims this can massively reduce background noise (such as the hum of traffic on a busy street) and make calls in noisy environments .

This technology will be introduced into some of its phones in the second half of this year.

As our sister title Computer Shopper reveals, LG is also aggressively targeting the home entertainment market, promising LCD TVs with no motion blur.
