Sony's long-anticipated entry into the netbook market appears to have been confirmed with pictures of a mini-laptop leaking at CES in Las Vegas.

Sony, which famously described the netbook market as a "race to the bottom", was widely tipped to be launching a netbook at the show.

Now it appears the company carelessly (or perhaps deliberately) left photos of the Vaio P Series on display monitors in the CES halls, before the show had even opened.

Eagle-eyed Engadget bloggers spotted the photos and published them online.

The smart-looking device sacrifices a trackpad for a pointing nub in the middle of the keyboard, suggesting that the netbook is going to be very small indeed.

Previously leaked specs of the P Series suggested that the device would measure around 9.5 x 4.5in, making it one of the smallest netbooks on the market.

Other expected specs include Bluetooth, 802.11bgn Wi-Fi, and EVDO and HSPA support.

Our editor Tim Danton will bring you full details of the Sony netbook live from Las Vegas when it's officially confirmed.
