Rumours that Apple is preparing to launch an iPhone Nano have been given fresh impetus after a site began listing cases for such a device.
The XSXN site is listing cases for the "iPhone Nano" alongside those for the iPhone 3G and first-generation iPhone.
The same site began listing cases for the iPhone 3G before that was officially announced in June, although that device was widely trailed before Apple's launch.
The iPhone Nano "leak" arrives just a couple of weeks before Apple is due to announce its latest products at the MacWorld expo. Steve Jobs' decision not to give the keynote speech at Apple's last MacWorld event led many to speculate that the company won't be making any new major product announcements.
However, a refresh of the iPhone line-up has been predicted for some time, with much speculation that Apple will attempt to produce a smaller version of its infamous handset.
Apple will have to overcome two big hurdles if it does decide to shrink the iPhone format. Typing and navigating the iPhone's menus on a smaller touchscreen could prove a considerable challenge. Battery life would also have to be sacrificed in a smaller form factor.
Apple was unavailable for comment at the time of publication, but the company never talks about forthcoming products.
