Sun has released an early access version of the upcoming Java 6 update 12, and the code promises to deliver two new features - a plug-in for 64-bit browsers and Windows 2008 support.
According to Sun, the 64-bit browser plug-in was developed after people using 64-bit operating systems complained that they were restricted to 32-bit browsers.
However, Sun says that "if you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit JREs in order to have Java Plug-In for both browsers".
The 64-bit browser support is also only available on Windows and Linux as there is no 64-bit build of Firefox on Solaris yet.
You can download the early access builds here.
