IBM rubber stamps cloud

Posted on 26 Nov 2008 at 11:16

IBM has launched a new certification program for companies offering cloud-computing services.

The Resilient Cloud Validation Program sees companies submit their services to Big Blue, which then assesses them against a "rigorous, consistent and proven" set of benchmarking and design criteria.

Companies that get their services passed through IBM's wringer can then use the Resilient Cloud logo in their promotional materials.

Cloud computing has been all the rage over the past year, with Google, Amazon, Dell and Microsoft all offering cloud-based services.

However, IBM claims businesses are still wary of "unpredictable performance and some high-profile downtime and recovery events with newer cloud services." Concerns it intends to address with the certifcation.

And what makes IBM the best company to issue this certification? "Operating the most data centres in the world, IBM has delivered remote technology services to clients for decades and has developed strict standards for service quality from infrastructure design to process excellence."

IBM will be kicking off its Resilient Cloud program in early 2009.
