Ericsson has revealed its four-year vision for smartphones, including 20 megapixel cameras and an ability to shoot full HD video.
Speaking at a conference in Sweden, Ericsson offered a checklist of the features it expects to start appearing in smartphones by 2012.
Among the more obvious, the company predicted a shift to 1Ghz processors, and 1,024 x 768 XGA screens. However, it also suggested a switch to devices supporting Long Term Evolution, a potential 3G sucessor, which could offer mobile connections capable of 100Mb/sec.
It's clearly the "12-20 megapixel similar to today's pocket cameras, or even better" that is the most exciting, however the company will have to ensure the optics are there to back up the resolution.
