AMD slips further behind Intel

AMD is still losing market share to fierce rival Intel, despite a recent improvement in results.
According to market research firm, iSuppli, Intel took an 80.4% share of global microprocessor revenue in the third quarter, leaving AMD just 12.1%, down 1.8% from the year prior.
It's an incremental increase of 1.7% for Intel, though both companies saw little sales growth in the quarter. Intel moved up by just 0.1%, while AMD gained 0.3% in the same period.
Despite that, iSuppli reckons the PC market is looking pretty healthy at the moment with overall chip shipments rising from 12% to 14% in the third quarter. The market research firm is forecasting an increase in shipments of 12.5% in 2008, which should come as good news to the chip companies.
