SanDisk introduces 32GB Compact Flash card

SanDisk has introduced a Compact Flash card with 32GB capacity.
The Extreme III offers double the capacity of its predecessor and is being aimed at professional photographers and videographers in need of all that extra space.
According to the company, the 32GB card offers enough room for up to 80 minutes of high-definition video, and is ideal for storing RAW image files which can be up to ten times as large as their JPG counterparts.
In order to shift that content efficiently, the Extreme III will read and write at 30MB/sec, a figure still dwarfed by SanDisk's fastest card, the Extreme IV, which operates at 45 MB/sec second but is only available in 16GB capacities.
SanDisk also claims the Extreme III will stand up to some fairly rough treatment, operating under temperatures ranging from 85C to minus 25C.
The 32GB Extreme III will be released in October for around $300 in the US, though no UK pricing has been confirmed.
The high profile product launch will offer some respite for SanDisk, which is reportedly being eyed up by both Seagate and Samsung. According to SanDisk, it is "considering various opportunities".
