HTC Dream video emerges

Posted on 11 Aug 2008 at 08:21

A video purporting to show the new Android-based handset from HTC has surfaced online.

The video claims to show the HTC Dream, a handset with a fold-out QWERTY keyboard. In the video, the phone is also shown to have an orientation sensor, automatically flipping the screen as the user changes from holding it horizontally to vertically.

It is not clear if this is the same device as the Clio which the company submitted for Federal Communications Commission approval late last year. That phone supported GSM, EDGE and HSDPA, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Two cameras were also included, designed to make video calls more practical.

However, HTC asked that photographs of the device be kept out of public documents emerging from the trials, so no images of the handset have yet emerged.

HTC announced earlier this month that it would be ready to release an Android handset before the end of the year, with speculation that this referred to the Dream handset, expected to be made available on T-Mobile.

The video will be a welcome glimpse at the latest version of the operating system for many. Google has kept the latest version of the SDK under wraps to all but 50 developers, provoking anger among the software community.

From what can be seen in the video, whose quality leaves much to be desired, the operating system has come a long way since we took a first look at it November last year.
