Analyst suggests $199 iPod Touch 11:38AM, Thursday 7th August 2008
Apple will launch a refreshed iPod and MacBook line at an event in September, according to analyst Gene Munster.

In an investment note, noted Apple-watcher Munster claims Apple is likely to introduce a number of "pricing and capacity changes" to the line, with the iPod Touch dropping in price to $199, bringing it in line with the iPhone.

He also speculated that the iPod shuffle and iPod nano would gain greater capacity, though without a price change.

Munster also fuelled speculation that the company is preparing a redesign to its MacBook line, noting the "MacBook has had the same design since its launch over two years ago, and the MacBook Pro has had essentially the same design since its launch over 2.5 years."

Though Munster did not go on to suggest details of what this redesign may involve, rumours are gathering pace that the company is looking to move the MacBook closer to the Air in terms of styling, bringing down the weight and making it thinner.

However, Munster dismissed suggestions of a touchscreen MacBook emerging this year, claiming that it wouldn't make sense for the company to roll out the technology until it had matured, something he claimed would take two to three years.
