Dell unveils Studio Hybrid desktop

Posted on 29 Jul 2008 at 08:38

Dell has unveiled its Mac Mini rival, the Studio Hybrid desktop.

Dell is attempting to sell the Studio Hybrid on its eco-credentials. The company claims its small form factor desktop consumes 70% less power than a standard tower desktop, and that 95% of its packaging is recyclable.

The unit also comes with a system recycling kit which aims to make it easier to dispose of when users decided to upgrade.

Styling was also clearly on the minds of Dell's designers who claim the Studio Hybrid is 80% smaller than a standard tower desktop, and designed to be either stood vertically or lay down with users able to switch between six jewel-toned or bamboo covers.

Quite whether there's enough inside the Studio Hybrid to make it an attractive living-room proposition, however, really will depend on the user. Alongside a mobile Penryn T8100 processor, the Hybrid features a slot-loading DVD burner, optional Blu-ray drive, HDMI port, 250GB or 320GB hard drive, Firewire port, digital audio-out port, an 8-in-1 media card reader, 2GB RAM, and Intel Mobile 965 integrated graphics.

Prices start from £569, though a monitor is not included.
