The Stylus Photo 950 has a print resolution of up to 2,880 x 1,440dpi. Epson claim that it can print on a wide variety of media, including Epson's own photographic-quality paper, and can print edge-to-edge on media up to 1.3mm thick, which means it print on card as well as paper stock.

Even with its increased resolution, the Stylus Photo 950 has a rated speed for high quality printing that, Epson claims, is three times faster than its predecessor, the Stylus Photo 890. Epson attributes this to a new print head, featured for the first time in the Photo 950, which doubles the number of nozzles used to put droplets of ink on paper, and to the ability of the 950 to work in bi-directional printing mode.
Robert Clark, senior business manager at Epson Europe, claimed that for photo-quality prints the Stylus Photo 950 'is competitive on both quality and cost with standard colour film prints.'
Clark claimed the product was capable of producing 20cm x 30cm prints for between 90p and £1.80, compared to up to £3 for standard film prints. For 10cm x 15cm prints, the Stylus Photo 950 costs between 30p and 45p, while film prints cost between 15p and 30p a print.
The Stylus Photo 950 is priced at £322.55, and is available immediately. Ink cartridges are priced at £8.50 per colour.
It will be released in the UK at the beginning of May.
