Dell brings a little Mac magic to Windows laptops
2:23PM, Friday 27th June 2008
Dell is attempting to give the much-maligned Windows Vista a little Apple stardust by installing software similar to the Mac OS X Dock on its latest laptops.
Imaginatively titled Dell Dock, the interface is almost identical in appearance to the Mac Dock, although natively sits at the top of the screen rather than the bottom.
The Dock provides quick access to popular applications, such as Internet Explorer and Outlook, helping to keep the desktop screen clear of unnecessary clutter.
Dell isn't the first company to try and replicate the Mac OS X look on Windows - the free Stardock ObjectDock has been offering a similar interface for quite some time, earning it a place in PC Pro's top 50 downloads feature.
The Dell Dock will be pre-installed on the Studio range of laptops that Dell announced yesterday.
