XPod becomes XPlay

Mediafour has changed the name of its software for connecting the iPod to Windows PCs from XPod to XPlay, following a request by Apple.
According to the XPlay FAQs, 'Apple Computer, a company with which Mediafour has always had an amicable relationship, has expressed concern over our use of the name XPod. We believe that we have a legal and ethical right to use the name, so we're disappointed by the situation. We have chosen to change the name to XPlay at this point, rather than risking damage to our relationship with Apple.'
Mediafour has announced that a free preview version of XPlay will be available by Christmas Eve.
However, the XPod name lives on - at least until Apple's lawyers hear about it - in BITcom XPod, OS X software which uncloaks the invisible music files on the iPod so they can be copied, something Apple has prevented in order to deter illegal copying of music.
