An Indian company is promising handsets that can project holographic images will be with us by 2010.
The handset has been patented by Indian technology company Infosys, which claims its handset will be able to capture and project multiple forms of footage, including still images, films and games into our laps.
While there are already a multiple examples of holographic projection technology in use, Infosys claims its device will distinguish itself by being portable and having the ability to display 3D images without loss of resolution, something that isn't possible using current technology, such as stereoscopic displays.
Infosys envisages the device becoming a valuable aid to remote working. In one example, the company cites an accident investigator using it to record a car crash scene for viewing later, or as a tool for doctors to assess injuries before arriving at the site.
