Home Server Power Pack hits RC1 2:38PM, Thursday 12th June 2008
Microsoft has announced the first Release Candidate of Power Pack 1 for Windows Home Server.

Undoubtedly the biggest feature of the Release Candidate is the fix for the data corruption bug which occurs when people use a third-party application to edit or transfer files on a Windows Home Server with more than one hard disk. The problem was first reported back in December, but Microsoft says it has taken this long to develop and thoroughly test the fix.

Microsoft is appealing for thousands of people to download the Release Candiate to "prove that we not only have fixed 'the bug', but have significantly improved all parts of Windows Home Server."

Among those improvements, Microsoft is touting the ability to backup files in folders shared among PCs on the network and support for 64-bit versions of Windows Vista. There's also a bevy of resource management improvements and speed tweaks.
