Novatech chasing Rock's high-end laptop ground 1:02PM, Thursday 12th June 2008
British PC manufacturer Novatech says it's sharpening its focus on the high-end laptop market, in what looks like a strike at recently-troubled rival Rock.

Rock has forged a reputation in the high-performance laptop arena, but recently hit stoney ground when the company went into administration, before being bought out by the Stone Group.

chief executive, James Bird, told PC Pro that Rock will remain focused on the high-end laptop market, but now Novatech looks set to give it a run for its money.

"Novatech's PC and laptop business has been consistently growing over the past 10 years," claims Kriss Pomroy, commerical director at the company. "However, the revenue growth we've seen in the past months specifically on our notebook range has been unreal," he says citing, a 11.5% growth from February to March.

Novatech says it will continue to focus on Nvidia-based performance laptops, such as its Extreme x80r model, which the company claims has been the main reason for its recent surge in sales.

Rock and Novatech have more than a shared taste for high-end laptops in common: they both use the same laptop chassis and Rock's former PR guru is, coincidentally, now handling the marketing for Novatech.
