Sony breaks 4 megapixel barrier with new Cyber-Shot

Sony has launched its Cyber-shot DSC-S85 digital camera, complete with 4.2megapixel CCD.
The new addition to the Cyber-Shot stable continues the tradition of using Carl Ziess lenses - this time with a 3x optical zoom. It also makes good on Sony's promise to roll out more products utilising its Memory Stick removable storage. And, in this model, you can retain the images within the camera's internal memory, giving you the option to then copy your pictures onto multiple Memory Sticks.
Image-wise, it supports JPEG and GIF formats, as well as MPEG - a 128Mb Memory stick will hold around 90 minutes of video at a resolution of 160x112 - and there's an uncompressed TIFF option, too.
Other touches include Sony's animated GIF feature - ClipMotion. This combines 10 pictures to create an animation file small enough to use in emails. Automatic exposure bracketing allows to you capture images at three different exposure values, so you can guarantee a well-exposed shot. The AF illuminator feature briefly lights up your subject in dark conditions to give a positive focus - however, this may get in the way if you're trying to get a snap of some shy, nocturnal animal.
