Nine out of ten want plane mobile call ban 1:35PM, Wednesday 21st May 2008
The EU may have given airlines the go ahead to allow passengers to use mobile phones in flight, but it seems that people are unlikely to take them up on the opportunity.

Nine out of ten people would prefer that voice calls were not allowed mid-flight, with half saying that mobile email would be the most important feature for them instead, according to a new survey by Yahoo.

"This survey proves the desire of UK consumers to stay connected to their social networks and their interests whilst in-flight, but they don't want to be forced to sit through a flight listening to the passenger next to them having one-way conversations," says Geraldine Wilson, vice president and general manager of Connected Life at Yahoo.

The results tally with another recent survey from Money Supermarket which found over half of people believed that those talking loudly on a phone in flight should be punished.

Some thought that a ban from using their phone in public was a suitable penalty, while one in ten thought that an ASBO was a more suitable punishment.
