The latest version of Cinema 4D starts to ship on 29 May, more than a month ahead of schedule, on the back of its Hollywood debut in the creation of the credits for The Mummy Returns.
Cinema 4D is a 3D-modelling, animation and rendering application. The upgrade features across the board enhancements to version 6.
Enhancements include: radiosity and global illumination, together with surface and volume caustics (to improve the realism of light and its reflection and refraction); multi-pass rendering (so that, for instance, elements can be rendered as separate layers for post-editing); polygon reduction (aimed at game developers to improve render time); Smell Like Almonds 2.5, adding new material textures; Explosion FX, for explosions; and network rendering locally or across the internet.
Cinema 4D XL 7 is available for Windows, Mac OS and OS X, and costs £1395 (inc. VAT). Upgrades from version 6 cost £349.
