In the world of cheap notebooks, profit margins are wafer-thin, with precious little budget for advertising and marketing, but here's proof that some corners just shouldn't be cut.

The cheerful young notebook user pictured below has accidentally been featured in advertising campaigns for Asus and MSI's competing laptops.
Rather than shooting a new image for their adverts, the companies went to the online image library, Getty Images, and found a stock shot. Unfortunately, both stumbled across the same image.
To make matters worse, a little detective work shows that he's actually an Apple fan. In the original image the orange-hatted kid can be clearly seen using a MacBook.
Asus has at least done a better job of doctoring its laptop into the image than MSI has. In the latter image the notebook seems to float magically just above the desk.
A similarly embarrassing revelation recently hit Microsoft. On closer inspection of an advert produced by the company, the notebook being used can be identified as an Apple PowerBook.
