Football played out on PC

Posted on 23 Apr 2001 at 15:18

OradNet and Intel have just announced their new TOPlay Soccer software, which allows computer users to watch their favourite football matches via their PC.

I'm not talking about watching video coverage of the game, but an actual computer representation of the events. TOPlay Soccer creates an interactive 3D representation of actual football matches that can be viewed by fans online. Viewers have total control over how they watch the match and can zoom in and out of the action and watch the match through the eyes of their favourite player.

The Immersive Sports platform also allows full interaction with elements on the computer screen, so if you click on a player's sponsored shirt you will be hot-linked to the sponsor's Web site.

"Immersive sports technology will increase the financial value of sports media assets," said Zack Keinan, President and CEO, OradNet. "This innovative content represents the changing face of the business of sports, as well as the enhancement of the fan's relationship with their favourite team."

I'm not sure if the software would ever come to these shores, what with Sky Sports and its maniacal grip over the broadcasting of top football games.
