Germans prepare for hack attack 4:59PM, Tuesday 13th March 2001
It has been revealed that the German government wants to follow the example of the US and stage a mock Internet war.

In a report by German magazine Der Spiegel, a proposed scenario for such a campaign involves a Mafia-type organisation hacking into the computers of a Berlin energy supplier and shutting down the power in order to embark on some real wrongdoing.

While the police, the German Ministry of the Interior and a number of companies that want to take part in the exercise, are dealing with this disaster, the hackers will then target the telecommunication network, disabling that too.

Although it sounds like a script from the latest Hollywood blockbuster, the Germans maintain that it is an attempt to realise that the state, industry and its associated computer network are vulnerable and that these organisation must work together.
