Lloyds' euro rollout starts in Spain
Posted on 29 Nov 2000 at 15:04
Lloyds TSB has launched its online bank, evolvebank.com, in Spain today, ahead of its UK launch.
Lloyds has watched from the sidelines the troubles that have hit other online banking ventures and so has proceeded with a cautious rollout - the service has been available to a controlled sample of 100 Spaniards in the last couple of months. A call centre has already been set up in in Scotland with 25 Spanish-speaking operators on hand to help customers.
A similarly phased launch will follow in the UK and then Italy is likely to the next target, but hopes to expand across Europe have been hit by the high cost of German banking charges.
The launch will see the bank offering a 5% interest rate to Spanish savers. All account customers must be resident in Spain to qualify.
