Tesco targets iTunes

Tesco is planning to take on iTunes with the launch of a new music and video download service.
The online shop will launch next month with a selection of 3.3m tracks, half of which will be in the DRM-free MP3 format according to reports.
The site will then be expanded to offer video content, including television series and films as well as videogames by the end of 2008.
Download prices have yet to be announced, but a Tesco spokesman says they will be competitively priced putting tracks at about 80p per track.
"We wanted to create an exciting and easy-to-use entertainment shop that Tesco customers of all ages and technical ability can use and trust," says Tesco commercial director Graham Harris. He goes on to claim that the service will "shake up" the download market by attracting a wider range of consumers.
