The BBC has jokingly offered a job to the hacker who managed to convert its iPlayer software for the PlayStation 3.

Far from taking the high-handed approach usually adopted by content producers who see their video or audio software compromised, the BBC's head of digital technology has expressed his admiration for the hacker's work on the <

"I was interested to read that someone has managed to make BBC iPlayer work on the PS3 by pretending that it's a Wii," writes Phil Rose.

"We'd love to be on every popular device tomorrow, including the PS3, and it was on our roadmap.

"So, while I'm impressed that someone has done this, this doesn't mean that it's the best possible iPlayer proposition for that console. We're investigating the optimal video profile and browser proposition to enable us to officially make iPlayer available on PS3 in due course."

And Rose concludes with an invitation to the software maestro involved. "By the way, if the person who created the ps3iplayer port is looking for a job at the BBC, (s)he's welcome to contact me ;-)," he adds, providing a link to his blog profile page, which includes a form for comments.
