Access your PC - with your fingerprint
4:45PM, Thursday 5th October 2000
It's not the first time that a fingerprint authentication device has been launched for the PC, but this time LG Electronics has developed a monitor with an in-built fingerprint sensor.
The monitor is a slim-line TFT-LCD device, measuring a mere 15.1 inches and a sensor in the monitor verifies the identity of users with those fingerprints already registered on the system. The company is also working with IrisScan on a security system that can identify patterns in a person's iris using a video-based imaging process.
A company spokesman said of the new security systems, "The growing popularity of Internet commerce requires tighter control than what simple passwords offer."
It seems that we are not that far from a future where our everyday lives are touched by gadgets and gizmos more at home in a James Bond movie.
