The Wind will apparently feature an eight or ten inch screen with a 1024x768 resolution, and a choice of either a solid state disk or 2.5in hard disk, according to Notebook Italia.
The report also suggests it will feature 1GB RAM as standard, and be powered by Intel's Atom processors, allowing for clock speeds between 1GHz and 1.6GHz.
The Wind will come with Linux preinstalled, but MSI claims a Windows version will follow, as will blue and pink models.
MSI is also claiming the Wind will feature a seven hour battery life, which could serve to set it apart from its budget rival and its three hour battery.
The Wind is expected to cost between £299 to £699 depending on the specification, though the lightweight laptop is in prototype phase so there's still time for pricing to change.
