New TomTom uses drivers' street cred to dodge jams 5:29PM, Tuesday 4th March 2008
TomTom's new satellite navigation technology aims to get drivers to their destination faster by calling on the experience of others.

The TomTom GO 730 and GO 930 feature IQ routes technology which decides on the best journey route using the average speed other users have achieved in the past, rather than simply looking at posted speed limits and road types and "guessing", as was previously the case.

TomTom says the information has been collected anonymously from millions of TomTom users and covers 6.2 billion miles of roads.

Using historical data TomTom says the new Go models can more accurately take into account factors such as traffic lights and even speed bumps when calculating a route and how long it will take the driver.

The GO 730 and 930 also features "Advanced Lane Guidance" which aims to give the driver a more accurate representation of their surroundings, such as showing the amounts of lanes on the road and static images of nearby road signs.

The GO 930T will be available in the UK from April 2008, though pricing is to be confirmed. The GO 730 is not being released in the UK.
