MSI brings battery "Turbo" button to pro laptops 10:57AM, Friday 29th February 2008
MSI laptop owners will be able to extend the battery life on their PCs by up to 20% at the touch of a button, the company claims.

The Turbo Battery Technology is the antidote to the Turbo button found on the company's gaming laptops. Instead of overclocking the CPU for optimal graphics performance, the Turbo Battery button will put the brakes on processor performance.

"We're underclocking the CPU to try and prolong battery life, using the front side bus," says Richard Stewart, product marketing manager at MSI. "We're trying to use our experience in motherboard design to bring something different to the laptop market."

In addition to underclocking the processor on the fly, the button will implement power-saving measures such as reducing screen brightness.

MSI will be demonstrating the technology at next week's CeBIT 2008 show, and aims to introduce the Turbo Battery Technology across its professional laptop range by June.
