Marks & Spencer puts premium price on security suite 11:45AM, Wednesday 13th February 2008
Marks and Spencer is launching its own anti-virus software, although it may pay customers to shop around for a better deal.

The software is being licensed from Formjet, a company that also rebrands its software for sale in Tesco and Woolworths.

Five products will be launched by M&S, including backup, antivirus, office suite and clip art software, priced between £19.50 and £69.50.

The Internet Security with Back-Up Software suite will cost £49.50, and claims to protect users from viruses, spyware and hackers, as well as offering backup features.

Tesco,

on the other hand, offers a rebranded antivirus and spyware application, without the backup feature, for only £9.97. The M&S software, is "powered by the same core engine" as Tesco's £19.97 security software, according to Formjet's group development director, David Hennel.

The M&S suite is even more expensive than our A-Listed security suite, Kaspersky Internet Security 7.

The price may be the least of M&S customers' problems, though. We called the customer services helpline and it was unable to tell us where the products were on sale. No such software appeared on the company's systems, we were told.

According to a Formjet statement, the software will be sold in-store, and customers will be provided with technical support via a dedicated website.
