BBC pens programme deal with MySpace 9:20AM, Friday 25th January 2008
BBC Worldwide has penned a deal with MySpace, making clips of popular programmes including Doctor Who available to users of the social networking site.

The deal will initially result in around 150 two minutes clips becoming available through a dedicated BBC Worldwide channel on MySpace.

Users will be able to watch the clips through the channel, share them with friends or embed them within their profiles.

The deal currently covers only short clips, with longer content unlikely to appear due to a rights conflict with the BBC's on-demand iPlayer. As part of this, clips will appear around six months after the original broadcast.

BBC and MySpace will share revenue made from through site advertising. Further financial details are not being disclosed.

The MySpace deal follows that reached with YouTube last March, which saw the BBC establish three BBC-branded channels displaying "short-form" videos, including clips and promotional materials.
