Sony puts Skype on PSP

Sony has announced that it will add Skype features to its slim-line PlayStation Portable, the PSP-2000.
Following a system update in January, the PSP will provide free voice calls between Skype users, and for a charge, SkypeOut calls to landlines and mobile phones anywhere in the world, with an optional SkypeIn number for receiving calls.
The PSP will also support contact list management and Skype presence, so users can see which friends are online and available to talk. Users will also be able to view and modify Skype settings and account details such as username creation, SkypeOut settings, voicemail settings and call forwarding.
After updating the PSP system software, a Skype icon will be added to the Network category in the home menu and users without a Skype account will be able to create one through the PSP.
Sony says Skype support is part of its plan to "vigorously promote the expansion of the PSP platform". Last May it announced a deal with BT to put internet (VoIP) voice and video calls on the handheld.
The Go!Messenger service is due to go live later this month. It also has an agreement with Sky, allowing PSP users to download video clips.
