Rumours of a new Apple ultraportable have gathered momentum, with news that an unfamiliar model has been spotted at the company's Cupertino headquarters.
According to Apple Insider, sources have seen a dark grey or gunmetal coloured notebook that doesn't bear any resemblance to current models. The mystery notebook was the same size as a 13in MacBook, but noticeably thinner.
This sighting may be an early prototype of the ultraportable notebook that Apple is rumoured to be working on, expected to be released in January.
According to CNBC, the new notebook will be 50% thinner and lighter than the current MacBook, and will use NAND memory rather than a traditional hard disk. It is expected that such a model would cost $1,500, which would place it at an estimated £1,000 in the UK.
However, the sighting could simply be a revamped MacBook. Apple's entry-level notebook was released in 2006, so is expected to be updated in the near future.
