SWsoft will now be known as Parallels, as the company launches its vision for "optimised computing".

Parallels allows Mac owners to run Windows or Linux-based operating systems on their hardware, although Apple's licensing restrictions currently prevent Windows owners from running Mac OS X as a virtual OS.

""This is the first in a series of moves that will help our customers and partners realise the benefits of what we are calling 'Optimised Computing'," says Serguei Beloussov, CEO, SWsoft.

"This means enhancing Windows, Linux, Mac, x86 and ia64-based bare metal systems with innovative hypervisor-based virtualisation, container-based virtualisation and a suite of complementary automation solutions."

The company says it will be bringing a range of new products to market next year, including "major updates" to Parallels Desktop and Workstation.
