Eee PC gets storage boost

Asus has announced an upgraded version of its Eee PC, little more than a month after the first version was released to worldwide acclaim.

The new model will have double the RAM and hard disk capacity, with 1GB and 8GB respectively, but the same 7in screen and underclocked 900MHz Celeron processor.

Asus has yet to reveal any details on pricing, but Clove is offering the units on pre-order for just over £300.

The new version of the ultra-portable notebook is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of next year.

The original version has caused a stir since its launch, with impressive sales and controversy over a violation of the GPL.

Last week, Asus claimed it was selling 20,000 Eee PCs per month.

However, Asus angered some in the open-source community by removing attribution from the Linux source code shipped with the notebooks, and not making the files openly available. The situation has since been resolved.
