The week in your words: Windows 7, EU and Wi-Fi worries
Posted on 16 Nov 2007 at 18:02
And finally, the news that 54% of us hijack wireless connections, principally because 7.8 million of us haven't bothered securing our connections. A fact which was met with a near deafening lack of sympathy from our forums.
"A lot of businesses use Wi-Fi," begins HeatherKay innocuously. "Where I work, there are about eight Wi-Fi networks in adjoining units, and at least three of them are unsecured. In fact, if a visiting client needs to access the InterWeb with their laptop, we tell them this. I guess I could be a good citizen and try and track down the owners of the networks that are open, but, frankly, it ain't my problem."
Though thankfully, the story did have one positive outcome as it helped jayscsi comprehend how much danger he was actually in and launch into tarmac melting action to secure his connection.
"I haven't changed my router name, did not think it would make a difference but I did set up my password, could be a bit longer and stronger I guess. Will have to do it later."
And in that blaze of glory we'll say goodbye. See you next week.
