RIM offers software for smaller firms 7:54AM, Tuesday 6th November 2007
The company behind the BlackBerry, Research In Motion, is rolling out a system called Professional Software, aimed at small and medium businesses with up to 30 wireless users.

The BlackBerry software will provide small or mid-sized companies with secure wireless access to e-mail, as well as internet and intranet applications, but is simple to install and maintain, claims the company.

The new software can be installed on the same server as email systems, which could save small companies the cost of buying a dedicated server.

During installation, the software performs a "technical assessment of the environment and provides a recommended configuration making installation fast and easy," says a company statement.

The core of the software is based on the same system that RIM has been offering to governments and large corporations for some time.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based company is pricing the package at $499 (£250) for five users and $849 (£425) for 10 users. Either option can support up to 30 users if additional licenses are purchased.
