BT fixes Home Hub hole 12:45PM, Tuesday 23rd October 2007
BT has fixed a major security vulnerability in its Home Hub routers, which would have allowed an attacker to take complete ownership of the device

BT says it will remotely update Home Hub hardware so there is nothing for the end user to do. The update disables the Remote Assistance option that is at the heart of the security flaw.

"The removal of this feature, which is not required for normal operation of the Hub, does not impair any BT Total Broadband services and will not affect other PC-based remote access applications or remote upgrades," BT explains on its Support & Advice pages. "Although the 'Remote Assistance' option will still appear on Hub Manager menus, trying to enable it will result in an error message."

The feature will be completely removed in future versions of the Home Hub firmware.
