Currys group blames Vista for poor sales
2:43PM, Thursday 18th October 2007
DSG, the group behind Currys and PC World, has warned that poor sales of Vista could slash its profits by around £20 million.
The group had expected a massive uptake of the new operating system, with customers upgrading their hardware to take advantage. To that end, it ordered tens of thousands of additional laptops, which it was ultimately forced to discount in order to sell when the expected demand failed to materilise.
"We thought many more customers than transpired would want to change their existing hardware," says DSG's Finance Director Kevin O'Byrne and reported in the Guardian.
He went on to blame Microsoft for the lacklustre uptake of the operating system, saying he was "disappointed with the lack of promotional support" from the software giant.
