iPod touch hack allows calendar edits
Posted on 12 Oct 2007 at 11:00
A new hack allows iPod touch users to add calendar events using the device's on-screen keyboard.
Many potential buyers were put off by the fact that this simple feature, present on the iPhone, was disabled. Up to now, touch users have been able to synchronise their calendar with a computer and view entries, but not add or change events.
The ability to edit calendar entries did briefly appear on the product description for the touch before its launch, before quickly being removed.
This led to rumours that the feature was removed at the last minute by Apple due to a bug. Others believe that it was an intentional move to create a more defined gap between the touch and the iPhone.
The hack was discovered by Nicholas Penree and Tony Hoyle, and simply involves adding two lines of code to a specific file stored on the device. This requires read/write access to be enabled, which can be achieved with the "jailbreak" software. Full instructions can be found here.
