Yahoo dumps podcast search site 10:56AM, Friday 28th September 2007
Yahoo is dumping its podcast search and rate service as it attempts to rejuvenate its waning profits.

The service will shut down on 31 October, according to a notice on the site. It has been running for two years and was established to take advantage of the sudden interest in podcasts brought about by the success of the iPod and the ability to listen to them on the move.

However, the site has failed to find an audience and in August was Yahoo's least trafficked site, with visitors falling off by a fifth from the same time the year before, according to figures from Hitwise quoted by the Associate Press.

The closure of the site is the result of a 100-day review instigated by Yahoo chairman Jerry Yang, as he attempts to turn round the company's ailing fortunes after replacing former chairman, Terry Semel, in June.
