First look: IBM's free office suite

In fact, the hardest part of switching is physically downloading the software. You must complete a lengthy registration on the IBM website, and the download manager failed to work for us. Downloading the package took well over an hour, but this may be due to an initial rush on downloads.
Nevertheless, Lotus Symphony is worth the wait. The big question is how much longer can Microsoft afford to ignore these free office offerings?
