PC World is releasing a new range of laptops designed specifically for children.

The Advent K laptops will feature a range of cosmetic additions to make them more appealing to children aged 8-16, including interchangeable covers and colourful accessories, including webcams.

The laptops will come in three specifications, with the higher spec model retailing for around £650 and the lowest model at £400. Those investing in the higher specification laptop can expect a dual-core Pentium T2130, 2GB of memory and a copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.

All of the models will come bundled with a copy of Norton Internet Security 2007 and Know It All by ChildNet, a utility designed to help educate young people on the safe use of the internet.

Parents will also have the option of having the laptop set-up for free in-store by PC World staff, though further support post purchase will require a paid-for warranty.

A PC World spokesperson described the rollout as a "toe in the water" with the company investigating the possibility of a dedicated helpline to back the brand in the future.
