Previously offered in the US as Windows Live Folders, the newly re-branded SkyDrive beta has now been brought to the UK. It offers up to 500MB of storage, split between public, shared and personal folders. Public folders can also be embedded on your own web page or blog, giving friends the opportunity to download photos directly from your homepage.

You can upload five files at a time, with a limit of 50MB per file. A downloadable tool that allow you to drag and drop multiple files on to your SkyDrive is supposed to be available from the upload section, but two members of the PC Pro team both failed to find it.

Microsoft's SkyDrive arrives just as Google has added additional storage to its web services and Apple also extended the storage in its .Mac offering.
