The $5,000 ThinkPad

Posted on 4 Jul 2007 at 10:18

Lenovo is aiming to add a touch of class to its laptop range with a $5,000 Reserve Edition model that's encased in fine leather.

The company claims the premium leather casing is "handcrafted by expert saddle makers" that is "supple to your touch and becomes more unique with every use". Each of the limited edition machines will be individually numbered.

The Reserve Edition will also offer owners a superior support service, with a dedicated 24-hour technical support line, with no answering machine or phone menus.

It also claims to offer onsite warranty support in "most major cities around the world" within four hours.

Lenovo is positively gushing about the exclusive range. "The ThinkPad Reserve Edition was designed for anyone who really wants to take computing and ThinkPad to the next level," says David W Hill, Vice President of Lenovo Corporate Identity and Design. "It's about becoming the next pioneer for the world. Going places that people haven't been, taking your technology with you and succeeding."

Whilst perhaps not a world beater, the Lenovo Reserve Edition does boat an impressive specification, including a Core 2 Duo L7500, 2GB of RAM, seven hour battery life, Vista Ultimate and Office 2007.

Final pricing details are yet to be announced, but Lenovo representatives claim it will be around the $5,000 mark.

You can see full details of the laptop and put your name on the shortlist at the ThinkPad Reserve Edition site.
